The artist’s home
Ricklundgården was created by the couple Emma and Folke Ricklund in the late 40’s. Together they built their dream villa up on a hill in the middle of the mountain village Saxnäs. The view over the lake Kultsjön and the Marsfjäll massif in the background is amazing. It was an incredibly bold project that became a piece of architectural history.
Today, Ricklundgården is a museum and art residence. Artists from all over the world come here, all year round, to soak up nature and create art in the two studios.
The museum
Walk up the stone stairs, sprinkled with beautifully flowering poppies and enter through the door of the whitewashed villa. Take off your shoes and hang up your jacket in the cloakroom, now you are standing inside Emma Ricklund’s home. Here time has stopped and everything has been preserved as when she left us in 1965. A unique artist’s home with both local and exotic art. Welcome!
Art in residence
Do you get inspiration by the shifts in nature and do you feel tranquility in silence? Whether you want to find peace or inspiration, Ricklundgården’s studios are created for creation. Artists have come here to work for more than 80 years.
Ricklundgården is today an international art residence with two studios and guest artists come from all over the world.
NEWS
On the surface, Ricklundgården may seem calm and tranquil, but underneath, inspiration and creativity burst forth, like all the changes in nature. Candles light up during the dark winter nights and maybe a fire sparks in the fireplace. But soon it blossoms in Emma’s flowerbeds and the slate paths are framed by greenery. Emma Ricklund was a very talented woman full of visions and we continue to develop and create in her spirit.

KRAM
“Emma Ricklund’s foundation receives support of roughly 3.1 million from the Heritage Fund for the project “KRAM”
“KRAM (Creativity, Relationships, Everyone’s equal value, Courage to be yourself)” will develop a new cultural-pedagogical working method where children’s and young people’s needs, reflection, wishes and the artistic process are at the center. The project will build three physical art education nodes in Saxnäs, Dikanäs and Vilhelmina and also create an outreach mobile activity based on the new way of working.

It is not so easy for everyone to get out to various events or functions, so we took some equipment with us and visited the nursing home in Saxnäs yesterday.

We humbly thank you for the visit and wish Inga-Wiktoria all the best with the exhibition in Norway, we hope to see you again!

AND I COULD WORK UNDISTURBED AND WITHOUT COMMITMENTS FROM THE OUTSIDE. I WAS GONE AND COULDN’T BE INTERRUPTED AND THE WORLD TURNED INTO A MORE COMFORTABLE SELF. THE IMPRESSIONS I GOT WERE THROUGH THE WINDOW AND WALKING TO THE GROCERY STORE AND I LOVED TO HAVE IT THAT WAY. I SLEEPED WHEN I WAS TIRED, ATE WHEN I WAS HUNGRY. WORKED HOW LONG I WANTED. THE STUDIO WAS ALSO FANTASTIC. THE SPACE IN IT, THE VIEW FROM IT, AND THE CLOSENESS FROM THE BREAKFAST TABLE TO WORK. I AM REALLY HAPPY AND GRATEFUL FOR BEING GRANTED TO BE THERE.”

”I SPENT A MONTH AT RICKLUNDGÅRDEN IN THE SUMMER OF 2019 TOGETHER WITH MY PARTNER MATZ ENGDAHL, WHO ARE DECOR PAINTER AND MUSICIAN. THE STUDIO IS LOCATED IN AN INCREDIBLY BEAUTIFUL ENVIRONMENT RIGHT BY A LAKE AND CLOSE TO SEVERAL MOUNTAINS. IT IS INSPIRING TO TAKE PART OF WHAT EMMA AND FOLKE RICKLUND CREATED IN THIS PLACE AND THE DESIRE THAT BEAMS OUT OF THE HOUSE. FOLKES STUDIO IS SPACIOUS AND BRIGHT WITH HIGH CEILINGS AND A SMALL INDOOR BALCONY WITH A VIEW OF THE MOUNTAINS. WE HAD A FANTASTIC MONTH WITH EXCURSIONS – WE WALKED, WERE AT A FESTIVAL IN VILHELMINA, VISITED FATMOMAKKE AND AT THE SAME TIME WE FOUND PEACE FOR FOCUSED WORK. AT THE END OF THE MONTH, WE INVITED TO AN EXHIBITION AND CONCERT IN FOLKES STUDIO FOR PEOPLE WHO LIVED IN THE AREA AND WHOM WE HAD MET DURING OUR TIME THERE. I CAN REALLY RECOMMEND RICKLUNDGÅRDEN TO FIND PEACE FOR ARTISTIC WORK IN A UNIQUE PLACE.”
